A month-long search for 19-year-old Aniah Blanchard has now ended in tragedy as her remains are discovered on Monday, November 25th 2019 in Macon County, Alabama.
“I can confirm that human remains have been found and we have good reason to suspect they are that of Aniah Blanchard,” said District Attorney Brandon Hughes.
The remains were found off Macon County Road 2. It was not far from New Hope Baptist Church.
TIMELINE OF EVENTS:
Wednesday Night- October 23: Blanchard is seen on video at the Chevron Gas Station along South College Street in Auburn, Alabama. The video is the last known image of Blanchard.
Thursday – October 24: Blanchard is reporting missing to the police by her family. Investigators say Blanchard’s SUV is seen traveling in the early morning hours along South College Street in Auburn, Alabama.
Friday Night – October 25: Blanchard’s black Honda CR-V SUV is recovered at Park Place Apartments in Montgomery, Alabama. The vehicle has been damaged. Evidence is recovered from inside the vehicle.
Thursday – October 31: Police confirm first time publicly evidence taken from inside the SUV tested by the Department of Forensic Sciences indicates Aniah Blanchard has been harmed and is a victim of foul play.
Monday – November 6: Police ask public assistance in identifying a person of interest seen on surveillance video inside Auburn Chevron gas station along South College Street at the same time as Blanchard.
Tuesday – November 7: 30-year-old Ibraheem Yazeed of Montgomery named as the wanted suspect in the Kidnapping of Aniah Blanchard. Yazeed is taken into custody in Pensacola, Florida at 11 p.m.
Friday – November 22: Second suspect in disappearance of Aniah Blanchard arrested identified as Antwain Fisher, AKA Squirmy, charged with Kidnapping 1st degree.
Monday – November 25: Human remains suspected to belong to Aniah Blanchard located in Macon County Alabama.
Blanchard, who went missing around a month ago, was last seen at a Chevron gas station in Auburn, Alabama, on October 23rd. She was then reported missing the following day by her family.
According to the Auburn Police Division, investigators received information about the possible location of a body during the ongoing investigation into Blanchard’s disappearance.
Monday morning, law enforcement searched a rural area in the 38,000 block of County Road 2 in Shorter and found human remains several feet into the wood line.
Macon County is between Auburn, where Blanchard was last seen, and Montgomery, where her vehicle was found with her blood inside. Nearly a dozen agencies have been involved in the search for her. The searches have been focused in Auburn, Montgomery and the nearly 60 miles in between the two cities.
Blanchard’s Honda CR-V was found Friday, Oct. 25 at a Montgomery apartment complex not far from Atlanta Highway. It had damage along its passenger side. An affidavit stated blood “indicative of someone suffering a life-threatening injury” was found in the passenger compartment of the SUV. Forensic testing confirmed the blood was Blanchard’s.
Arrests
Two suspects have been charged with kidnapping her. Ibraheem Yazeed was arrested in Florida on Nov. 7. Antwon “Squirmy” Fisher was arrested Friday.
Court documents revealed a witness identified Yazeed as the person he saw “forcing Blanchard into a vehicle against her will and then leaving with her in the vehicle.”
Fisher allegedly provided transportation for Yazeed and disposed of evidence.
Yazeed and Fisher are being held in the Lee County Jail without bond.
Let’s hope law enforcement has all the information and evidence they need to convict these people. Update:
A person was located by police who said “Yazeed was seen at a residence in Montgomery wearing only shorts, with a gun tucked into the shorts,” according to the affidavit. The court records did not identify this person.
“The subject further advised during a subsequent conversation with Yazeed, Yazeed admitted to shooting a girl, and stated the girl ‘went for the gun,'” according to the documents.
Lee County District Attorney Brandon Hughes said Monday that Yazeed, 29, would face a capital murder charge and also the death penalty in the disappearance and murder of 19-year-old Aniah Blanchard.
Update:
The case involving the death of 19-year-old Aniah Blanchard will be presented in front of a Lee County grand jury.
I got worried because a lot of the evidence is circumstantial and that’s how killers get off. It all leads to him, and I hope the find the right evidence to convict this man for what he did to that beautiful girl.
Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty in this case, and Yazeed is currently being held in Lee County Jail without bond.
The date of the grand jury hearing is currently unknown.
