Mass shooting in northern Alabama leaves seven dead

Seven people were killed in a mass shooting at a residence in Morgan County late Thursday. The shooting took place at a home on Talucah Road in Valhermoso Springs close to Somerville at a little before 11:30 p.m., according to the Morgan County Sheriff’s office. The scene is about 10-12 minutes from Huntsville city limits.

Six of the seven victims have been identified while officials are still working to identify the final person.

Two of the victims were identified by police as Jeramy Wade Roberts, 31, of Athens, and William Zane Hodgin, 18, of Somerville. The other names have not been released.

Deputies responded to a call for gunshots at 11:23 p.m. Thursday night at a home in Valhermoso. Upon arrival at the residence, deputies saw part of the home was on fire and later discovered seven bodies inside after the fire was extinguished.

No other details have been released. Authorities did say there is no threat to the public and the scene was secure.

The Morgan County Sheriff and Madison County Sheriff Crime Scene Units were processing the scene, while the FBI Violent Crimes Taskforce was assisting.
