The Auburn Police Division has opened a death investigation after a man’s body was found in Auburn Alabama.

Lai’s body was found in a shed at a home in the 500 block of Southview Drive in Auburn on Nov. 10, 2019. No foul play is suspected, according to the coroner the man had no visible wounds, but an investigation is ongoing into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Positive identification was made through fingerprint comparisons.

Auburn University issued a statement extending its deepest sympathies to Lai’s family, adding “he will always be a member of the Auburn Family, and we mourn his loss.”

Lai, a 22-year-old student from Taiwan, was reported missing on Aug. 19 after failing to show up for his first day of graduate school classes.

Harris said the body doesn’t appear to have been in the shed very long. There was no identification on him. It did look as if he’d been living in the shed perhaps. Which did seem a but odd..

Captain Lorenza Dorsey said the body will be transported to DFS medical examiner to determine cause of death. Updates to come as they become available to me.

Authorities say the case isn’t related to the disappearance of 19-year-old Aniah Blanchard, another college student recently reported missing in Auburn. If you have any information on either case, please contact your local police department.
