This Number Has Been Disconnected

A few years ago my brother would get a call on his cellphone around 2:00 – 3:00 A.M. every night. He would answer and it was this hellish sounding noise. Like static mixed with screams. He changed his cell number after a month of this and it stopped. Then after a week or so it began again. The exact same noise. Exact same time. Finally one day he decided to backdial the call. It was […]

The Car Crash That Never Happened

“About 20 years ago, my sister, her husband and I had were driving back to her house, going just past a truck stop when an old man stepped out in front of us. Her husband, who was driving, slammed on the brakes and we all started freaking out because the old man had disappeared. My sister and her husband jump out, thinking they’d just killed the man, but there’s nothing there. Cop comes along and […]

She closes her eyes and looks shaken up about something. She continues to tell us to stay down and be quiet. Then in a hurry, she pulls out of the driveway and drives off while calling my stepfather. […]

I Went To High School With An Actual Witch

I went to high school with this girl named Elaine. My papa would have said she was “ugly as sin”- something I’d only heard him say about disfigured dogs. But he never met Elaine. Elaine hated me: because I was a Christian, […]

Satellite Images

A friend of mine showed me how to use Google Maps. I’m sure you’ve seen it. It lets you use satellite images to look at locations all over the world. A few years ago, I was in a car accident. Since then, I really don’t leave the house that often. It’s difficult, and the idea of a seeing a car drive by me makes me feel lightheaded. I was fascinated by the fact that I […]

The Cell Phone

A couple of months ago, my friend’s cousin (a single mother) bought a new cell phone. After a long day of work, she came home, placed her phone on the counter, and went watch to TV; her son came to her and asked if he could play with her new phone. She told him not to call anyone or mess with text messages, and he agreed. At around 11:20, she was drowsy, so she decided […]
